We had that same rule at our house. Always either accompany each other to public restrooms or stand outside the appropriate door and wait. I was more in fear of kidnappings which were all too frequent at that time than of sexual molestation. Now the concern would be for both.

Me too! My mother did the same for me and my sister. I still do it today for my 12 year old.

My children were born in the 80's... and I had concerns about both. I am not opposed to states passing legislation over public bathroom usage... However, no law can make a public restroom a 'safe' zone for a child on their own.
