Prince write music not only for himself, but tons of artists in the 80s.

He was a musical genious.

He was much more talented than Michael Jackson.

agreed...saw him in concert in 1984 and i was a bit bored with the show..i also understand he was overall a good guy but this wall to wall mourning is out of control...

and as i said to someone this morning- imagine what its going to be like when springsteen dies? (another one whose music i dont like)...

will we be forced to publicly mourn (as when kim il jung died in NK)???

...but it’s not like he gave his life for his country or something.

I support the right of anyone to emote in any way they deem necessary, whether on the street or in the media. Thank you Lord for earplugs and remote controls.

Springsteen has been openly political to the point that he’s fairly roundly condemned here, so there’s going to be at least one refuge when that day comes.

“Guy sure could play the guitar”

I find it interesting that his recorded music always had a muted guitar. He underplayed his talent until he went on stage and as you mentioned, he would shred. I never saw him live (and probably wouldn’t have, to be honest) but have heard his live music and it sounded like he gave one hell of a concert.

I keep wondering when McCartney or Mick Jagger dies what it will be like.

We don’t have to worry about Keith Richards, because he’s never going to die.

It is a rare thing when you get a musical instrumental prodigy who turns out to also be a great composer, arranger and song writer. Enjoy them while they are here because the flame only burns a short while. But it burns very bright.

“will we be forced to publicly mourn”

Holy crap!!!! Where do you live???? I live in Minneapolis and we aren’t even being forced to mourn! That’s very strange that your city is forcing you to mourn!!!! <s

Would have been cool if Prince could have joined a regular band and just played guitar.

Heck, he could have made a pretty good living on just being a session guitarist alone.

Princes guitar work is not insignificant

He didn’t push it

But like Zappa

He could sure do it

Springsteen is a an entrenched Democrat. He follows the party dictates to the letter. It’s pretty understandable why he believes what he believes. He believes what he is told.

Prince was a paranoid recluse who followed conspiracies. People like that are destined to die by their own hand, as MJ did.
Rather ironic they were both JW’s.

It’s ironic with your moniker you’re the one pressing for decent manners

Folks forget what this forums exists for first and foremost for many

Prince was an odd man in many ways, but a very talented musician in many ways as well. People in general are prone to forgiving a certain amount of eccentricity for such people.

But we do get pissed when they die early because we view it as self-serving. Perhaps MJ and Prince could have lived decades longer if they had tried to live longer.

Or perhaps they should have tried to live longer just to entertain ME.

Absolutely agree. I may not have liked all of his music but he was a genius, far more so that MJ. And, I have heard of his generosity, his quiet generosity.

It’s apparently a hard life, touring and performing every night, and it’s apparently difficult to avoid getting sucked into drug use of one form or another. It kills a lot of them, even decades after they wake up and get themselves straightened out. It takes a toll. Then, you have Keith Richards.
