I am saddened by their decline too. More than any other company they invented modern retail. With a catalogue and mail order a person in a small town on the grear plains could buy the same things a person in New York could buy.

We lived in rural Florida.

I particularly remember Mother ordering clothes etc. before school started. This was around 1951. When the package came we all could not wait to open it and see what everyone got.

Those Sears catalogs were a doozy. I remember the lingerie section, in the 70s.

You're right... If you think about it, Sears sort of "invented" the Amazon.com model more than a century before the Internet!
