JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Thursday that transgender people should be able to use whichever bathroom they choose, voicing opposition to part of a far-reaching North Carolina law that critics says is discriminatory.
Speaking at a town hall event on NBC's "Today" Thursday, Trump was asked about North Carolina's so-called "bathroom law," which, among other things, requires transgender people to use bathrooms corresponding to the gender on their birth certificate in state government buildings as well as public schools and universities.
Trump said the law had caused unnecessary strife for the state, which he said had paid "a big price" economically.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate," said Trump. "There has been so little trouble."

Someone penned a book a few decades ago in which he predicted that America would lose her soul (the common, mutually agreed upon traditions, customs, mores and philosophy upon which we were founded) and would one day become “UNGOVERNABLE”.

/Trump needs to stop voicing views for America like he would at a dinner table. America is not the same as a dinner table. There are laws, precedents, history, culture etc.../
I agree.
trump...What a Maroon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxGgnI6kCrs
Matt Lauer is getting exactly what he wanted from the looks of what is being said in here....This thing is taken way out of context by a lot of you...
Trump NEVER said anything about men attracted to women going in the women’s bathrooms....
Trump never said anything at all about perverts in “little girl’s” bathrooms....
If a so-called “transgender” girl goes into a ladies bathroom, it isn’t looking at women...By changing sex, it says it wants a MAN...And the opposite is true for a “transgender” guy...
Trump said people should go where they feel comfortable...That is ALL he said...
You could probably refute Trump yourself if you would inform yourself of how it all started. There was no “trouble” with the existing way bathrooms were used. Everything was fine until Charlotte decided to pass an ordinance forcing everyone to allow people of the opposite sex to go into whichever bathroom, changing rooms, and even public shower rooms. If a man wanted to go shower with women in a gym’s changing room, by declaring himself a woman, nobody at the gym could stop him. Again this was Charlotte FORCING this on everyone. This effort to pass it was led by a registered sex offender.
Now if Trump had bothered to catch himself up on the backstory of how this all came about, maybe he wouldn’t have spouted off something so uninformative.
Fact is the law was only created to stop Charlotte’s liberal nonsense. It’s not like our lawmakers thought this up out of nowhere.
This is such bull! Put the interview in context. Basically, he believes that bathroom policy should be left alone. He is correct. If there is ever a problem, as far as criminal activity, current law suffices. Besides, it is good for the rest of us to be witness to such behavior in a public setting, rather than sheilded. That is how you learn not to act out poor behavior and choices.
Bruce Jenner is a man who claims he is attracted to women, is he not? What bathroom should he use? To me, the answer isn’t ‘whichever one he wants.’ I mean come on. A man who claims they are a woman who is attracted to women does not equal lesbian, right? Lesbians are female, right? What is Bruce Jenner?
How can he be so rational about Muslims and not about this?
Freegards
I support Donald Trump. This bathroom controversy is contrived gotcha. I will read his statement on this non issue later.
Clarification from Trump camp coming tomorrow. He misspoke, didn’t hear the questions, .....
We’ve crossed the Rubicon and now there’s not a damn thing any President can do about it, without imposing Draconian measures.
So much for “Let the states handle it”.
I feel comfortable in the women’s locker room at the local college...because I am a heterosexual male.
So we need three bathrooms: men, women, transgender I guess. And Trump is correct, the businesses will be the economic fall out for this. But in the midst of the issues our country faces, from Isis to Economic destruction, bathrooms should be at the bottom of the list.
It all started with Soccer.
I say it started with the DH rule.
No matter how much you put the interview into context, it still proves he is a low information candidate. If the law was left alone, Charlotte would have had their way of forcing everyone in their city to allow men to go into locker rooms with women.
It’s probably not the best law they could have put forward, but it was passed quickly to stop Charlotte. They went into special session for it.
Please, please people, read the backstory.
Then go right ahead and go in there...Whatever the consequences be, you’ll have to accept them...
That’s a good question...What IS Jenner????
They won’t. They’ll project, insult, gloat, etc. Trump supporters have long-since detached themselves from any shred of conservatism. No amount of evidence presented to them will convince them of how wrong they were (and continue to be) about Trump.
They are, in terms of emotion-based attachment, every bit as much of a cult member as the dearest Hillary devotee.
And FreeRepublic has become a laughingstock. It’s not Conservative. It’s populist. I come to this site, only occasionally nowadays, mainly to see what propaganda they’re spewing.
Judging from your nickname, if your local college is Appalachian State, then you’d come out of the women’s locker room on your back...
Exactly.
BTW, can you teach me to play like Merle Travis?
