I guess my opinion about Cruz changed when:
- I learned he was born in Canada
- I learned his wife works for Goldman Sachs
- I learned that his Senate campaign was financed by loans from Goldman
- I learned that his record on immigration was muddled
- I learned that he has been in favor of all the recent trade deals.
So far, he has been deemed eligible by all election authorities to review the case.
- I learned his wife works for Goldman Sachs
I'm not a fan of the company... but not everyone who works there is evil.
- I learned that his Senate campaign was financed by loans from Goldman
Learn what a margin loan is. It's a loan against his own assets that he has to repay. It's a personal liability, not a gift from the company.
- I learned that his record on immigration was muddled
Who says it's muddled? Just because you and he don't agree 100% doesn't make him a dirtbag. Trump says he will build a wall... I'm still waiting on the specifics of how he will do it. Cruz has laid out his plans for everything in detail.
- I learned that he has been in favor of all the recent trade deals.
I'm not a fan of these either. It is what it is. Being the most conservative candidate in the race doesn't make him perfect. Again, my dialogue here is about the mind-raping slime machine that FR has become against Cruz. I didn't say he was perfect.
I guess my opinion about Cruz changed when:
- I learned he was born in Canada
He is a Natural Born Citizen of the USA as decided by the courts. His history shows he is a patriot and a strong conservative.
- I learned his wife works for Goldman Sachs
You really think it matters that his wife worked at Goldman Sachs? Trump’s numerous wives were foreigners, so what? You really think that has, or will influence his policies? Get real!
- I learned that his Senate campaign was financed by loans from Goldman
He borrowed from a bank against his personal assets. And he repaid the loans with interest. Does it matter where he borrowed the money? Trump has borrowed billions from Big New York Banks. So what!!
- I learned that his record on immigration was muddled
Trump’s history is more than muddled having supported amnesty in the past, and now supporting “touch back” amnesty. Cruz has opposed amnesty consistently, will secure the borders, and supports deportation and enforcing the laws. Sounds good to me.
- I learned that he has been in favor of all the recent trade deals
He initially supported one deal, but has since changed to opposing it. The other he has opposed from the start.
Cruz has a lot more to like than dislike, and he has been a conservative his whole career. Can you say that about Trump??? An honest answer is NO!

In all seriousness, I do generally understand your cynicism. I don't trust American politicians--as a group--as much as I wish we could.
As a matter of fact, I submit that I am more cynical than you are. I don't trust guys like Trump. The fact that he isn't a politician does not reassure me at all.
Being a high-roller businessman and real estate magnate rather than a politician does not exactly make Trump a straight shooter (nor does it qualify him as a Chief Executive of our Constitutional Republic.) I think Trump's record is distinctly horrible.
American voters--even nominally conservative voters--seem to get suckered over and over and over. I frankly believe Trump is another RINO--an unusually charismatic one, of course--riding a wheeler-dealer's wave of populistic fear and confusion and slander.
Perhaps the saddest thing of all is that I am distinctly underwhelmed to learn that the majority of FReepers are Trumpsters. This website has become a mess, not a thoughtful discussion forum for talking about what our Republic really needs. (In other words, I agree with the FReeper who posted this thread. I think our free Republic is in monumentally serious trouble.)
