That wouldn't be nice or, presently, preventable. There is a lot of concern about that however. This is one thing NASA is actually doing.

Yes, detect it in time and a small spacecraft collision would nudge it off collision course.

This is where the problem enters a religious dimension. What do we do if something could easily wipe us all out? Do we look afresh at where our bread is buttered? Or do we just run around with our hair on fire?

If we can do the math and scramble the spacecraft quickly enough. Something like the Tunguska meteorite might not even be visible in the dark of space till it has come impractically close to be able to do anything.

It might be able to save, if prayer to God was involved. The explanation requires theological concepts such as omniscience.

I guess this is one of the consequences of being able to make extremely precise measurements of orbits, and use sophisticated computer models to calculate what might be causing unexpected variations.

Not easy.

So we shot a probe 11 yrs ago...that landed on the back of a comet last year.......
