I’ve often thought that the uproar over the Ford Pinto was contrived, it had to be taken down because the GM equivalent Vega was such a piece of junk. The Vega was the better-looking of the two but rusted out rapidly and the aluminum block 4 cylinder was not ready for the real world, to put it politely.
