What started them and continues to move them on this endless trek?
The initial reason for them leaving India is lost in time. But for the last seven, eight, nine-hundred years, the Romani have been persecuted and welcomed at different times by different peoples and nations.
I think it is more tradition and culture (internalized) that keeps them moving in modern times. And certainly many Romani stay in one place for their whole lives.
