Interesting experience.
Nipon Kogaku was the original name of Nikon. So you have stuck with the same excellent brand.
Still have one of their excellent rangefinder 35mm cameras, a copy of the German Contax RF.

I started with Pentax and still use a Pentax DSLR. I get really good results with it, and can still use the same lenses that were on my first one in 1980 or so and it was used then...(also have a 35mm Minolta SRT101 that I like pretty well.)
I shoot mostly birds and nature stuff, but no sandhill cranes for 300 miles around here. Right now everything is changing, winter birds leaving, I saw a few Brown Headed Cowbirds a couple of says ago on my feeder so some of the summer birds have made it in.
