Can-Am only lasted for nine seasons, but its huge contemporary popularity has made it one of the most fondly remembered of racing series. Its success and the vast crowds it drew did much to redefine sports car racing, taking it from its gentlemanly roots into an era of huge power and downforce that carried into the next generation of sports prototypes. It was also where the relentless professionalism that has come to define McLarens approach to racing was forged. The teams period of domination stretched from 1967 to 1971, taking victory in all five championships and winning no fewer than 37 out of the 43 Can-Am races held during that period.
