“Have visited zoos all my life; but
seeing big cats caged & becoming mentally unbalanced by
the confinement is sad to me.”

I agree.

The back and forth pacing, hour after hour, day after day,is heartbreaking.

The wales were kept in very small quarters too.

The two cats I saw years ago, big cats - were in a small
cage. They were running from each side, meeting in the
middle in a coordinated exercise over & over & over sort
of like you see some circus cats do as an “entertainment”.
For animals designed to range over many miles, they only
had a few feet; but they used everything they had. This was
at the Memphis zoo, where the old lady used to kidnap little
kids playing in the very sandbox I also played in as a small
child. My mother watched me like a hawk bless her; but I’m
sure the kids who got snatched by the burly employees of the
old woman were also watched by parents. Just looking away
for a few seconds was all they needed to do their evil deed.
(These chidren were sold to rich couples wishing to adopt.)
