Best live album ever?
For me and in this order;
The Kinks "One for the road"
Deep Purple "Made in Japan"
I'm looking for more.
Ripped, stored and transferred for future play.
I like it.
Thank you and those that came before you.
And both of those concerts took place at the same venue.
The 1976 Knebworth recordings by Lynyrd Skynyrd are very good (look for the “Freebird: The Movie” soundtrack). That was the band’s big introduction to the U.K. audience - and they upstaged the Stones.
Never seen them live , but WP is an awesome band. Cool story abt UGA — never knew that!
Love statesboro too. Good call on the Dead picks...classics, some of the best.
Got a link?
I posted this thread about the best live “Albums” ever produced and knew that Frampton would get top billing.
whatever,
I suppose I was looking for artists that put out “studio stuff” but could actually play it better live.
It’s rare.
Really? Ok mock me.
“You had to be there” Jimmy Buffett
Yup.
Somebody also mentioned Live at Leeds - The Who
I would add...
Made in Japan - Deep Purple
FM Live - Climax Blues Bad
Jazz Blues Fusion - John Mayall
Forgot to mention Roxy & Elsewhere - Zapa.
Johnny Winter “Live And”
Rolling Stones “Get your Yaya’s Out.”
It’s Great to be Alive!—Drive-by Truckers (anyone who claims to love rock and roll simply must see these guys in concert)
Trials & Errors—Magnolia Electric Co.
Kicking Television: Live in Chicago—Wilco
Seconds Out—Genesis
Live, Volume 3—The Avett Brothers
Live at Sin-E—Jeff Buckley
Back to Tulsa: Live and Loud at Cain’s Ballroom—Cross Canadian Ragweed
Jackson Browne—Running on Empty
Live at the El Mocambo—Elvis Costello
The Belfast Gigs—Horslips
I agree that “Made in Japan” is at the top of the list.
Actually, the Best “Live album ever”
I’m surprised that there are few here that recognize “The Kinks”, “One for the road”
I have that album. Its awesome. The last waltz is my favorite though.
If we are doing Band, I put Before the Flood as my personal fav.
Freegards
‘Lou Reed Live’ is actually taken from the same shows with that tremendous rockin’ band and is worth tracking down. It’s not as good, but still has the same vibe. You can almost look at it as a double live album together, especially with the expanded Rock N Roll Animal.
Freegards
Don’t mess with me.
I’m an old school Elvis Costello fan.
My ex-girlfriend spent hours on end downloading music from “Napster” back in the day.
She got my classic Costello songs and a hand full of “Solo Acoustic” songs that I can’t find to this day.
"Searching"

The entire "Freebird" movie can be viewed on YouTube. It contains most of the Knebworth recordings. There are older sources as well - the concert was on VHS long before the documentary film was made.
