The unwillingness to spend more than a few anonymous minutes in a voting booth a few times a decade, or beyond anonymous posting on a social web site, has guaranteed the situation we are in.
That is not really an accurate statement. Many of the people who were voted in to serve the people change their tune and go against what they said they once stood for before they were elected.
Any politician can lie to get elected and that is what most of them do.
