Why Donald Trump is Beating Ted Cruz
3/5/2016 | Owen Hill

Posted on 03/05/2016 6:44:16 AM PST by CapitalistCrusader

I was thinking about the republican primary and asking myself, "if conservatism is the answer and Ted Cruz is an exemplar of conservatism, why is he not doing much better at the ballot box so far?" Or, why is Donald Trump doing so much better? In my opinion, Trump is doing better because he is proposing solutions to our country's problems that are derived from common sense thinking.

For example, there are thousands of illegal aliens crossing the border with Mexico on a monthly basis. Trump's solution? Build a wall. This is not a new idea so Trump adds that he'll get Mexico to pay for it. Whether he can actually get Mexico to pay for it is not really relevant to his campaign. Politicians routinely make bold predictions of what they will do once elected and then never deliver. The point is that he mixes the common sense solutions with a degree of bravado that adds an air of the traditional rugged American. This theme of common sense solutions mixed with a little New York moxy has been pattern in his campaign thus far. This is what he has branded "Common Sense Conservatism."

Putting all the name calling aside, Trump and Cruz want to accomplish many of the same goals as POTUS. Secure the border, replace ObamaCare. reduce the size of the federal government, etc. So why is Trump resonating with more voters than Cruz? Because Ted Cruz is an elitist conservative. What is an elitist? An elitist is a person who believes that a society or system should be lead by an elite. Only a "true" conservative is able to select a proper justice for the supreme court. Only a "true" conservative can come up with the right plan to rein in the federal bureaucracy. Only a "true" conservative can fix the health care system. The list goes on and on. His demeanor suggests that only he, a "true" conservative, can properly lead, or is fit to lead our country out of the problems we currently face.

This is why a Ted Cruz campaign rally is reminiscent of a revival meeting. Ted Cruz is an elitist conservative. He is as much an elitist as Mitt Romney, as Jeb Bush, as Mitch McConnell, as Harry Reid, as Nancy Pelosi. He is simply a member of different elitist cabal.

But here's a new flash for Ted Cruz and Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin. Conservatism comes in many flavors, not just the true, doctrinaire, orthodox variety. There are many conservatives out here who are secualr, or gay, or lesbian, or even atheist. And we don't like to be preached to and proselytized.

I am a Trump supporter but I will vote for whomever wins the nomination legitimately. But all you elitists out there, of both the Republican and Conservative variety, should be aware that if you destroy Trump by invective you will be alienating a large swath of voters. If that happens I would expect turnout in the general to reach historic lows and Clinton to be the next POTUS. Is destroying Trump worth it?

“Has it occurred to anyone that the only reason Trump wants a wall built is because he’s a real estate developer and he sees it as a chance for some real estate developer make a fortune off of it? “

No, most of us aren’t as DUMB as the GOPe thinks we are.

In a nutshell: Cruz never had his own TV SHOW. That’s all it is folks. That’s all it is.

Yeah right. What? Ted couldn't get the CBC to cooperate?

My attitude is that if Trump does 25% of what he says he’s going to do its a win win.

You are voting for the grand compromiser if you vote for Trump.

I intend to vote Cruz in the primary. But our primary is in June and it will likely be settled by then. So I should vote Hillary or Bernie, a criminal or a commie, instead of a guy who actually LIKES America and wants Her to be great again?

He simply doesn’t have the votes to beat Hillary.

I guess we've pretty much given up on seeing the Hilda-beast frogmarched off to jail in handcuffs before November?

I've never watched "The Apprentice", but I support Trump anyway. One major reason is that Trump will owe nothing to The Donor Class, something that makes him unique among 2016 candidates. Another reason is that I think he really does want America to be great again.

1. Cruz does not use normal speak to communicate to voters.
2. Trump talks street-talk (no, it does not have to be laced with profanity either) and voters get it immediately.

3. Cruz graduated Princeton & Hah-vad-dont yoo know.
which translates to “insider”.

4. Trump talks ......and talks.........and talks until all
oxygen is gone out of the room.

5. Most importantly - the Media helps Trump and

6. The media have found a way to defeat Cruz - dont pay any attention to him. therefore there are only 2 people
in the race- Hillary V Trump.

7. Proof of #6 - view any abc/cbs etc news site and you will see Trump but hardly nothing of Ted whats his name.

8. Cruz has a track record of conservatism. Trump does not.
Unless your from Texas - you probably dont know this.

9. No. 5 &6 above bears repeating.

Also, how can you support both when Trump is claiming that Cruz is ineligible?

Eligibility has not mattered since 1/20/09. The same day the race card expired.

for got to add No. 10 - after discussing on talk radio
KSEV 700 in Houston- it is determined that the CLOSED primaries are mostly won by Cruz. OPEN primaries allow
Democraps to cross over and vote for “worst” repub choice.

A True Conservative:

Less Government intrusion, regulation, less taxes

Freedom of speech, including Non-PC speech.

Freedom to bear arms, even so-called 'assault rifles'.

Secure borders & deportation of illegal immigrants while supporting legal immigration

Strong national defense and military.

Which one of those do you not support, explain what you mean by not a "true" conservative?

Newsflash: DT is not about to alienate the Elites that fill his hotels and golf courses, let alone the Elite who FINANCE them.

Newsflash. It's the middle class and upper-middle who stay at his hotels and play his golf courses. You think billionaires go to Atlantic City to play blackjack at the Trump casinos? The billionaire class have other activities.

Trump knows that if the US middle class doesn't prosper and have money to spend on entertainment, then his golf courses, casinos, and hotels will go under.

Trump controls the narrative. When someone else tries to take the media spotlight, Trump releases a statement or press conference to counteract it. The media plays along only for ratings. Take a look at FauxNews, their ratings are tanking due to their biased reporting against Trump. The other news agencies are playing *fair* for viewership, even though there are reporters that don’t like Trump.

I said Elite, not billionnaires. Only a few thousand of those in the whole world. DT is not going to alienate the .gov and biz expense accounters who patrinize him nor the banks that finance him.

"I’m just not a “true” conservative."

Amazing the number of us who have voted ourselves out of that club over the past few months. I think the rolls of dues paying members is dwindling to insignificance.

I may not be what some people here consider a "true" conservative. I think of myself more as an American Nationalist.

I want an America where my kids can be safe from violence, get good jobs that keep them securely in the middle class, get married, and give me some grandkids who ALSO would have a good future.

My support for Trump is based solely on my view on how likely is is to be able to succeed in "Making America Great" again. I want a President who understands his duties are to the United States, NOT the world, except to the extent that world stability benefits the people of the United States.

Read the vanity, not just the comments. You will find what he means by “true” conservative.
