If clerks could just count change back when the register quits it would be most helpful.

Amen to that. I was behind a woman a couple days ago in the deli checkout line. Her total was $5.50. The clerk took her $10 bill and was struggling to make change even though the register said to give her $4.50 back! He stood there dumbfounded. She finally said “Here, I can give you $0.50 more if it will make it easier.” I thought his head was going to explode right there in the change drawer. He shook his head and, after considerable trouble, gave her $4.50 back.
STEM education? Bah. How about third grade education that works?
