And they admitted that their request is not just about “this one phone”, and if they get their way on this one they fully intend to make Apple open other phones. They even had the sister of a murder victim in the crowd, talking about how they needed to unlock the victim’s phone to see if they could determine if she was murdered by someone she knew. Once again, they have nothing to support the idea that there is ANY evidence on the phone. While they certainly should have the right to search the phone if they can get in, how does that give them the right to force Apple to create a tool to break the security of the phone?
(A) Apple made these changes (that effectively keep court ordered inspections blocked) in response to earlier court ordered inspections (Apple assisted in something like 70 cases)
(B) The technology itself can be outlawed (encryption falls under war weapon technology and is restricted in export and other categories).
