I am British myself and would recomend you take a look at "It Ain't Half Hot Mum" the setting is a British Army "concert party" in Burma late in WW2 it was on TV from 1974 to 1981. It is never repeated on BBC TV as it is no longer considered "politically correct". Also Hyperdrive a Sc-fi comedy (2006/7) which only ran for two series but is very underrated.

FYI....I watched EVERY episode of “Upstairs, Downstairs”....That takes stamina....but me and my wife did it.....Loved it...”Downton Abbey” stole from it!
