I'm a big fan of "Dad's Army," partly because I think it stands up over time compared to a lot of the others. I much prefer it to stuff like "It Ain't Half Hot, Mum."

"Are You Being Served," "Fawlty Towers," "Monty Python's Flying Circus," "Keeping Up Appearances" and "Blackadder" are good as well, and I have a soft spot for "The Goodies." I've also come to enjoy "Last of the Summer Wine," but it took me a while to do it.

Not British - but still Commonwealth - is "The Red Green Show" (and "The New Red Green Show"); my son and I prefer the earlier seasons to the later ones, but YMMV.

Argh!!! I forgot one: "The Good Life" (or in America, "The Good Neighbors"). Penelope Keith - as "Margo" - was consistently a hoot in that one. Margo's husband Jerry was played by Paul Eddington, who is more well known for "Yes Minister."

I haven’t seen “Dad’s Army,” but a good Brit friend highly recommends it. So did a German friend.
