The Glenwood Canyon portion of I-70 is a very picturesque drive. It's approximately 12 miles in distance and considered the costliest piece of interstate to engineer and build in the US. We drive thru Glenwood Canyon frequently, aside from rock slides traffic accidents (especially involving trucks) can shut down the eastbound or westbound lanes for hours. When driving across the Rockies on I-70 especially in the winter months you have three areas of concern ... the Eisenhower Tunnel area, Vail Pass (10 thousand feet), and Glenwood Canyon.

Beautiful area. When going through on a motorcycle I say a little prayer that all those rocks stay up on the mountain!

I-70 was a magnificent drive when it first opened decades ago, but now it’s not nearly sufficient for the amount of traffic. It’s still breathtakingly beautiful, but delays are frequent.
