Do believe we all may come to regret this decision, unless it is some super secret stealth version of Windows 10 that is impenetrable.

I'm sure the military's version of Windows 10 will be modified to accept old software, were as everybody else will have to mostly buy new software as the old stuff will not work on Windows 10,
I think the reason it is mostly free is to get people to down load it and then when there old software doesn't work, most individuals will buy Microsoft suggestion of the basically the same software, therefore boasting the stagnate economy a little bit and microsoft makes big money in the long run.

Wait a few months. My year old win8/10 machine blew up, and it may be a couple of weeks before I even can start rebuilding it.
Sure, says my son last night, if there are any old USB devices attached, 10 fails to boot.
He works in the IT department of one of the largest defense contractors in silicon valley.
I was transfering images back and forth for processing between a Win10 and a Win 7 machine when the apocalypse hit.
Using an older USB drive.
