Word For The Day, Thursday, 2/18/16
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
alacrity; noun
1.
cheerful readiness, promptness, or willingness: We accepted the invitation with alacrity.
2.
liveliness; briskness
Etymology: n.
mid-15c., from Latin alacritatem (nominative alacritas) "liveliness, ardor, eagerness," from alacer (genitive alacris) "cheerful, brisk, lively;" of uncertain origin, perhaps cognate with Gothic aljan "zeal," Old English ellen "courage, zeal, strength," Old High German ellian.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Pitt’s been really mediocre since joining the ACC. They needed 2 OT to beat a really bad Wake Forest team the other night.
MONDAY FEB 18TH??
Having decided on this place for lunch, http://sixpencepiecompany.com/Menu.html, I am full of alacrity.
That he won’t go to Scalia’s funeral just shows what a low class scumbag Hussein really is.
yes, I saw on twitter bc I follow pitt basketball and fans are bellyaching about them. SU lost badly to Louisville last night, but xshub expected it.
Had they lost to Wake, giving them their first road ACC win since 2014, there would be talk of firing Dixon.
As it is, they have some tough games coming up and need to win a few of them to even make the tournament.
ok, I was off a bit... ; ) which do you have a problem with? it is the 18th...
OMG, I wanna go too!
doesn’t give a good dang what anyone thinks, how it looks, etc. He is gonna do what HE wants and only what he wants, everyone else be damned.
Being that I am now retired, I don’t keep up with the day of the week like I did when working so you made me look at my calendar.
with a Monday holiday this week and then I was out of town for a funeral on Tuesday, I pretty much have no idea what day of the week it is!
We all must say NO to the massive-immigration supporters, the climate-change freaks, the muslim-kissers, and the Scalia-denegrators with great alacrity!!
Then we must all vote for Trump with even greater alacrity, and end the madness once and for all!!!!
I’m sorry for your loss.
I just got word my old buddy Ernie passed away this morning. He was an old (94) dock rat I met hanging out at the town dock. He was a super nice guy, but he was pretty much out of it the last couple of years. His wife would load him in the wheelchair and he’d just hang out at the dock, and smile as everyone said hi. Everyone knew Ernie, everyone loved him.
He was a glider pilot during WWII, including a drop on D-day.
OOHRAH.
In your dreams! :(
Ted Cruz has welcomed Trump’s threats to sue with an alacrity that is refreshing to behold. I like his rejoinder that he will take Trump’s deposition himself!
As for Pope, when the woman who suffered with the flow of blood touched Jesus’ garment, He healed her. But when that man down in Mexico pulled on Pope’s garment, Pope knocked him into another man in a wheelchair and scolded him!
A+++ I am with you on the first sentence, but can’t quite sign on to the Trump voting. Still hoping that he’s not the nominee.
so sad to see that generation dying off. my soninlaw’s grandpa was a vet as well. it rained like a MONSOON at the gravesite, such that the little tent thing looked like it might go airborne! but the bugler played taps standing off a little ways under a tree in the rain, sooooo very touching. soninlaw’s brother, the other grandson to the deceased, is a first lt. in the Army down at Ft Dix [is that el paso? he is in el paso] he was the military escort in the hearse.
A+++ its the only way to deal with trump.
