His greatest performance was as Lewis in “Deliverance.” He was also very good in “The Longest Yard.” And “Hooper” was pretty good, too.
“Sharky’s Machine” was not great - but it did introduce us to the luscious Rachel Ward.
And âHooperâ was pretty good, too.
My wife and I both loved Hooper. Partly because the area they were blowing up as part of the stunt, the one with the big brick chimneys coming down, was the Married Student’s Housing at the University of Alabama in the late 60’s.
Northington Campus was originally a WWII Army Hospital with the long buildings chopped up into apartments. And the tall chimneys were for the steam heat system for the place.
UofA was going to pay to have it torn down to build new modern housing, but the movie company paid them so that they could blow it up for the film.
If we had not been introduced to her at that time - we might have seen her in The Thorn Birds at another. LOL it took more than a few minutes to realize why the name was so familiar. :-)
