Word For The Day, Monday, 2/8/16
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
convivial; adj.
1. friendly; agreeable: a convivial atmosphere.
2. fond of feasting, drinking, and merry company; jovial.
3. of or befitting a feast; festive.
Etymology: 1660s, "pertaining to a feast," from Late Latin convivialis, from Latin convivium "a feast," from convivere "to carouse together," from com- "together" (see com- ) + vivere "to live" (see vital ). Meaning "sociable" is from 18c. Related: Conviviality.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
As an AFC North (and Big Ten) fan, it’s all in a day’s work. :-)
Touche’, point taken.
Oh yeah, the shep you’re hauling, too, as the ad points out.
I would also use it cruising around the ghetto to play this tune real loud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9RRBGFO1nI&feature=player_embedded
Totally agree! They were super lame (& I basically watch for the commercials & food. Not a football fan really). And NO Clydesdales??????????? Unless I missed it. I really enjoyed Weiner dogs, dorito dogs & Kevin Hart. Yes, the monkey commercial was just creepy.
That’s some industrial grade football right there.
xsboy is going to be moving out and into an apt this weekend, with two of his friends from HS. He had been looking with a bigger group of friends to rent a house for 5, but one guy had a dog and they just were not finding anything. I said, as a single family house owner I would NOT want 5 20 somethings living next door under any circumstances, so that was just not going to work for him. This is a 3 br 3 bath apt in Arlington, EXTREMELY nice, I mean nicer than anything his father or I ever lived in apartment-wise. comes with parking spaces etc. So I am excited for him, but at the same time, I am ready to bawl about it. I know it’s irrational, and I can hardly complain to my friends who have kids living in other states etc. but it makes me sad to have the nest vacated by another one. Thank the lord xsbaby has nowhere to go anytime soon or i’d be a basket case.
wouldn’t that be a dream come true! A+++
As we often say around here “an ugly win is still a win.”
I remember a game a year or two ago where someone was up on Alabama 21-0 in the first quarter. Alabama still ended up winning the game.
You get that kind of lead in the AFC North and it’s clamp down, game over from there. With rare exception.
Sunrise, sunset.
I guess affording an apartment on your own is totally out of the question.
I agree re Trump’s balls and willingness to just BLAST people and issues that need blasting. that is refreshing and that’s where 90% of his support comes from. but you are right, there are no core principles to guide him, or at least no reliably conservative ones. He WILL be a deal maker, but he will be making deals with Shumer et al and cutting the repubs out altogether. I am completely mystified as to why Freepers who support Trump think he will be reliably conservative in governing, what assurance do they have? and the Sup ct will have 3-4 vacancies for the next president to fill. NO ASSURANCE he will nominate conservatives, and we will have 100 years of judicial law made by the left which will make life in the US unliveable.
his portion of the rent will be $1300. so yeah.
did you read the link to Legal Insurrection that I posted above?
They did stick a small reference to Clydesdale’s inside a Budweiser commercial about something else (words like “these are not ponies”) ...
Damn that’s a lot of money. I think I paid $325 for my first apartment, living alone. Plus $9 for sewage and garbage.
Tell me he has utilities on top of that, like heat?
yes he will have to pay utilities etc. He can afford it but won’t be able to save much. The idea is he does this for a year, sitting on the pile of $ he saved living at home for a year and a half, and then buy something that he can in turn have buddies pay him rent to assist in paying the mortgage. we thought he should do that now, but he doesn’t feel ready for the responsibility of ownership at this point.
I can’t freakin wait for Annie to move out and get on her own! I’m selling my house and buying one with Kelly this year, if all goes well, and I really need Annie to get her ducks in a row and move on. Too bad she has her mothers attitude and every employer she has had this year has been a real asshole and she can’t work for them. She can’t afford her own stuff, but always has money to go out with friends/boys, etc. Amazing.
Is he even 20 yet? I respect that call on his part, plus he gets to see how trustworthy the boys are when it really counts.
I have not yet read it.
OK, I skimmed it. If her were the candidate, I’d be able to vote for him, but there’s something about him, on top of the amnesty thing, I don’t like. Smarminess, his hair, whatever, I’m not a big fan.
I don’t know where I’m going with this rely or the election. By the time CT gets a say, it will be all over anyway.
he graduated SU with an IT degree in 2014, and is 24 yo. Annie is one of the twins? your twins are the same age as xsbaby I think, she turned 21 this past year.
no, I totally understand. I can’t get upset about criticism of ANY candidate, I am not invested in any of them. but VA votes in March and I will vote for Rubio in our primary.
