The actual transcript:

MUIR: Governor Kasich, thank you. Mr. Trump, you've heard the argument from many of the candidates on this stage that you're not a true conservative. Tell the voters watching tonight why you are.

TRUMP: Well, I think I am, and to me, I view the word conservative as a derivative I - of - of the word conserve. We want to converse our money. We want to conserve our wealth. We want to conserve. We want to be smart. We want to be smart where we go, where we spend, how we spend. We want to conserve our country. We want to save our country. And we have people that have no idea how to do that and they are not doing it, and it's a very important word and it's something I believe in very, very strongly.

Trump knows what political conservatism is, he just wants to change the definition so he can fit under the banner. As great as Trump is in handling the MSM, people who support him have not really listened to him on his positions. He is not conservative.

"Conserving Your Wealth" is shorthand for all of the above.

You don't "conserve your wealth" by letting a grasping government grow big enough to need and demand your wealth.

It has many meanings, just like “is” or “ classified”.

Ridiculous article. There was a lot more to his answer than “Conservatism means... to conserve... your wealth”. How about the part about conserving the country? The economic and physical safety and well-being of Americans has always been his platform. He reiterated that. Good for him.

Beyond that, his answer really does represent the classic definition of “conservatism.” It’s an answer Edmund Burke would recognize. Everybody wants to give the definition of “classical liberalism” and call it conservatism. That’s fine, because it’s a common usage, but let’s not pretend that that is the only definition of conservatism, which fundamentally and historically is about “conserving” what is good and traditional and works, while warding off radical change. Remember Trump’s slogan: Make America Great *Again*.

Trump said conservatism means conserving the nation. I think the average voter prefers to hear that than ticking off a list from a power point presentation. Were Trump were to say he intended to take steps to conserve his company, people would recognize what he had in mind — do what is necessary.

One’s wealth is essentially the DISTILLATION of the finite TIME of one’s LIFE a person has invested in attaining it.

The Cliff Note version: One’s wealth/assets are a representation of one’s LIFE!!

Socialists DO NOT understand than and NEVER WILL!!

“I think it’s a really really great Preamble. I like it, I mean, it’s really fantastic. Really one of the best Preambles out there. And people tell me so, really really smart, great people.” (imagined Trump speech on the Constitution...)

Trump is an ignoramus. If there were only two, three, or maybe four people participating in the debates, it would become blatantly obvious how little he knows and understands. In a two person debate, as in the general election, he would be shredded even by Hillary or Sanders. If Republicans really don’t want Trump as the nominee, the minor candidates need to drop out as soon as possible, so Trump will have to fill more time in the remaining Republican debates.

Exit question: If you support Donald Trump, as long as he secures the border, are you content to let him do whatever he thinks is right, even if that isn't defined before he gets elected?

Absolutely...If he can secure the border that will show us he cares deeply about our Nation...And if he can get some of the jobs back from China and Mexico that will show us that he cares deeply about the people of the Nation...

Conservative, Liberal??? Who cares...You guys are so far out of it...We are way beyond Conservative and Liberal...

ONe thing that was comical in the debate was the other candidates and moderators try to belittle Trump by implying that he, like Bernie is in favor of socialized medicine...

But Trump, like me has enough compassion that he says he's not going to let a homeless veteran die on the street because the Vet can't afford healthcare...According to Donald the gov't is going to pay to get that man healed...And that is not the conservative position, is it...

I couldn't care less about your conservatism...Hyper conservative Cruz is at 14% and Trump is at 40%...

You think you can shame us or anyone else into turning against Trump for not being your type of conservative??? Not a chance sucker...We know you guys would vote for Rubio or Bush before you would vote for Trump...Your kind of conservatism sucks...That's why Bush is staying in the race...He knows he's got you guys when Cruz bails out...
