To many of those who tuned in, Donald Trumpâs three-minute remarks after finishing second in the Iowa caucuses appeared remarkably humble. He even congratulated Ted Cruz, whom Trump had called almost every name in the book in the days before.
Clearly, Trumpâs strategy of attacking his rivalâs character didnât work. But Cruzâs strategy of attacking Trump on his views apparently did.

It is going to be hilarious to see her get slammed next week.
I never thought I would cheer for a socialist (I don’t support him) but watching him crush Clinton...if only for a couple of weeks... Is so sweet.
I think he got more backing from the evangelicals that what was expected. I also think Rubio is gunning for Cruz and that doesn’t bode well for Cruz in NH as well as the SEC states.
A double digit lead, like Trump has, is tough to overcome in a week’s time.
Things are going to get interesting.
But Cruz won, so it's not a big deal, doesn't mean anything, just an empty symbol that Trump worked really, really hard to win just for fun.
Ok so living in Iowa for 3 weeks spining all his time talking about his “Christan faith” in his stump speeches and ads worked 1 time for Rubio in a state that has 61% white evangelical voters.
Let see how well he does when he cannot preach to the choir but needs to have cross over appeal.
Every conservative publication that is for someone other than Trump simply must be part of the Republican establishment, right?
It plays well with conservative Christians across the nation. So, Cruz has established himself as their standard bearer, and there are a lot of them.
He still has the Canada problem, though. He has to put that to rest.
Trump’s biggest problem is his mouth. He just doesn’t understand when to shut it when he’s ahead.
All that I have to say is that IOWA values are vastly different from TEXAS values.....it it clearly shows.
Cruz is a politician and Trump is a manager. We don’t need politicians...we need managers.
There is where the conservative base that elected Reagan will come from and Iowa is just the beginning of the awakening.
This.
The "evangelicals" (Iowa's self-proclaimed moral arbiters) early on looked art Carson/Huckabee/Santorum but trended to Cruz. The GOP-e (including the blue-rinse and polite politics set) that would have gone for Jeb trended to Rubio. Trump was going to have to carve out a chunk from the middle, which he did.
Mr. niteowl77
Cruz is willing to take it on the chin in NH so he’s going to be building that Southern firewall to derail Trump.
SC will be the first test of that strategy.
Going against 20 Proof gasoline is not a deal killer...
My thoughts exactly while following the vitriol in FR postings on Trump vs Cruz.
I have my candidate (Cruz) but will accept Trump as the nominee should that happen...ONLY BECAUSE doing what's right for the country is far more important than taking my ball off the court because I didn't win and going home.
No one with a D after their name must be allowed anywhere near the WH.

“Rubio is a GOPe bomb ready to go off.”
Cruz cannot win the general. No way, no how.
Look for Rubio to be the nominee in November. The “Cheap Labor Express” will not be denied. A Rubio Presidency means:
#1 “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” - Amnesty
#2 No Wall.
#3 More American lives and treasure wasted in the ME.
#4 Continued out-of-control spending.
#5 Uni-Party/Media/Crony Capitalist Complex thrives.
#6 Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan win, Middle Class dies.

GOPee loosers?....
Then why do all the candidates “have to win” Iowa? I’ve never understood it.
Trump got half of the “very conservative” voters compared to Cruz. That is telling.
Couldn’t be happier over the outcome of Iowa. Our three outsiders won almost in unison on large turnout.
Maybe Trump’s loss, though a close one, will make him less blustery. I hope so. I would also like him to have some serious competition.
Cruz is as organized on the ground in NH as he was in IA. There might be a real surprise in store for The Duck.
