While I do sometimes miss the regular weekly fellowship, I've learned over and over that I'm better on my own.
I struggle with "obedience to God" too much to waste time with trying to obey some of the self-righteous jackasses in pulpits I've met or their equally judgmental congregations.
Maybe I've picked bad churches to attend; maybe I've just got a stubborn streak a mile wide. Either way, I'm fine with life as it is. And I'm confident the Lord will take me in the end.
I’ve found the Lord tends to emphasize particular points along the way, rather than throwing a big to-do list at us. This fits with the bible model.
We might take to-do lists on ourselves, but that is not at Jesus’ urging. Jesus knows already the throw-the-Book approach is a lose! The Law was given to people who were proud of themselves. Grace is given to the humble.
I would caution one thing, SOMETIMES the devil can whisper things at you about preachers that aren’t even true. I’ve seen that happen before. The answer to that would be to go to the bible yourself and test what is being said.
Anyhow the church might not always be primarily to help YOU get to heaven. It might be for you to help SOMEONE ELSE to get to heaven. Looking for churches where the preacher is a good listener helps.
“Maybe I’ve picked bad churches to attend;”
I solved that problem for myself. I attend a different church every week and keep looking for more churches! Thus far, I have not attended duplicates but I live in a very large metropolitan area.
