I agree everyone should know some of these skills. People survived the depression because of them.
There are tons of info on the Internet. I even know how to sew, knit and crochet. You are right about surviving the depression. That was before my time but my brother and I were talking about that last year. He said they did not even realize how bad it was because our parents grew everything. I was wondering the other day if they had horses/wagon at that time. It would make sense. About the only place they went was to church and visiting relatives and most of them lived in the same area. An interesting time.
