Gallup: 'Trump Most Unpopular Candidate of Either Party' By Far
Weekly Standard ^ | 1/3/02016 | Chris Deaton

Posted on 01/30/2016 11:52:07 AM PST by conservativejoy

Research from the polling firm Gallup has found that Donald Trump is the "most unpopular candidate" for president in either major party - both in this election and all the way back to 1992.

Trump's unfavorable rating currently stands at 60 percent, which is substantially higher than that of any of his Republican rivals. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush is at 45 percent, and everyone else is even lower: Chris Christie is at 38 percent, Ted Cruz is at 37 percent, Marco Rubio is at 33 percent, and the reliably likable Ben Carson is only at 30 percent.

In the Democratic field, not even the scandal-plagued Hillary Clinton matches Trump's low standing - she holds a 52 percent unfavorable rating. Her fellow Democratic contender Bernie Sanders is at 31 percent.

The numbers are drawn from surveys of the entire U.S. population, not just self-identified voters.

Gallup's editor in chief Frank Newport frames these figures historically:

"I wanted to see how Trump's unfavorable played out in the context of previous elections, so I went back to look at the unfavorable ratings of the major-party candidates from 1992 through the current election. The bottom line is that Trump now has a higher unfavorable rating than any candidate at any time during all of these previous election cycles, and that conclusion takes into account the fact that unfavorable ratings tend to rise in the heat of a general election campaign as the barbs, negative ads and heightened partisanship are taken to their highest levels."

Even when compared with sitting presidents at their most unpopular moments, Trump's unfavorable rating sticks out. The 60 percent statistic is sandwiched between Bill Clinton's high of 59 percent in March 2001, shortly after he left office, and George W. Bush's 66 percent, measured in April 2008 amid the tumultuous homestretch of his second term.

I guess that’s why Trump is leading every poll. He’s so unlikeable. LOL!

My toilet says Standard on it. This rag belongs in its namesake toilet.

Trump draws the biggest crowds by far. He is going to get Dems , blacks, Hispanics who always vote Dem to vote for him.

Trump just won the Drudge poll with almost 900,000 votes.

Lies, Trump got 61% of almost 1,500,000 votes.

I guess lots of people like him.

...but his type of name calling reminds me of how liberals tend to argue.

Well, maybe it is, but I for one am fed up with our side playing the gentleman while the other side kicks us in the nuts. Maybe part of Trump's appeal is that he won't sit back and take that kind of crap. He will dish it out as well as taking it. Maybe its time we had someone to stand up to the libs and give them a little dose of their own medicine. I think Trump is tapping into that anger and it seems to be giving him traction. Whether or not it is enough to carry him through the inevitable 'Rat-media onslaught to come, well, we will see.

That’s why he gets 20K at a rally and everyone else gets 200.

Unless Trump thinks he can win over more liberals to replace the Conservatives he's turning off, I just don't understand his game plan.

He'll have to. With his negatives nationally, it will be damn well impossible.

The Donald is attracting votes from what at one time were called the "Reagan Democrats," who feel they have no representation of their views by any of the candidates so far offered up by the Democrats.

That's because Donald IS a "Reagan Democrat." He's an old-school, pre-communist Democrat, from back when Democrats still loved their country. And that's why nobody understands him, because being a Democrat today means literally being a communist, and people don't remember it wasn't always like that.

Well, this poll is apparently of all voters...not just the voters who will be voting in the Republican primary.

Perhaps the poll is completely bogus since TRUMP (PEACE BE UPON HIM) is BELOVED & HELD IN HIGH ESTEEM BY ALL.

I don’t think the number of hardcore Trump supporters showing up at his rallies are a good indicator of general support. I remember when Palin was drawing huge numbers of people to rallies during McCain’s run. Didn’t translate to enough at the ballot box.

but they still want more than just nasty words when you get past the "honeymoon stage" of a campaign.""""....

I have confidence that the good hard working Iowa voters will find that Honeymoon will be over when they go to caucus. Reality will set in.

They enjoyed the thrill of the Entertainer, sort of like wrestling fans, but now it's crunch time, time to wake up and take this election seriously, we don't want a Clown in Chief. And a rude one at that.

Hard to believe they would forget Trump called them STUPID....but now get angry over a mailer?

It’s like people who support Sanders. They won’t listen to anyone who says the American people won’t elected a socialist. When you deal with Trump supporters, they don’t want to know his biography.

Interesting take ... so if I get you right neither Trump or Sanders can win?..

Yet both look like good bets to be running against each other...and oddly in part the same reason....a large part of both sides base want someone outside there party system.

So if Trump vs Sanders... one of them is going to win

As for Cruz and Clinton and their supporters....both Cruz and Clinton have legal issues biting them in the ass that they are in complete denial about that will will block them being eligible to be president
