Still, that is a lot of millions of seconds. NOBODY can hold their breath that long.
But there will be one long exhale as the last second ticks away.
There used to be a “countdown” for days remaining in service for us young and somewhat reluctant warriors (remember, the draft was ALWAYS hanging over your head), and as that last day approached, the term “FIGMO” came up more and more frequently, especially once the rotation orders were cut. For those unfamiliar with the term, it expanded out into, roughly “Forget it, I Got My Orders”.
Then the orders get canceled, and you are on an involuntary extension, in which the phrase became “OMGIF”, or “Oh, My Goodness, I’m Fooled!”
Says the guy who served four years two months and twenty-four days. The four years I owed my country, the two months and twenty-four days were somebody else’s time.
