Don’t forget the bag of goodies they get-jewelry and expensive toiletries and clothes! It’s so good to be the anointed ones !
And I agree with awards for special effects and visual effects. I know some vfx people. Take one mediocre actor, pay him way too much (yes I know the free market arguments, but c’mon) , apply make up, hire good writers and stunt people if needed. Then get your vfx guys to make it look absolutely amazing.
I remember a few years ago the case of Rhythm and Hues (a vfx company who went bankrupt) and the movie “Life of Pi” Robert Downey Jr wanted to draw attention to the vfx issues and Samuel l Jackson shut him down as they were on stage to hand the award out.
And I happen to really enjoy Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr on screen, for whatever reason, BUT there’s nothing they’re doing that can’t be recreated with digits. Can’t wait until their all obsolete.
