Nothing more recent than 15 years ago? Listen to what he is saying now.
Didn’t you understand that a single payer universal healthcare system was a threat to personal liberty in 1999? I did. Trump apparently didn’t. Who cares if it was 15 years ago.
It would be immediately obvious to a true conservative the problem with a government run single payer system. Yet it wasn’t to Trump. He changed his stance not for the obvious personal liberty issue, but for another reason or, it took him 15 years to figure out what we immediately knew. As far as I know, the first time he espoused this new stance was as a political candidate.
You have to wonder “why?”...

Or are we restricted to only what he is saying during primary season as a declared candidate, when many candidates tend to shift their message to entice the base?
Watch a person's actions to know who they are. Maybe you haven't heard, but people tend to say just about anything to get elected. Haven't you learned this lesson yet from the last few years alone?
Trump's ego is on the line, and he is out to prove that he is the best deal-maker ever. This does not always entail doing what is best for limited-government principles. He's almost surely better than just about every other available option except Cruz, but it will be important to keep in mind if he does get elected. He will bring many unfortunate unintended consequences that his biggest cheerleaders here do not seem to care about at all.
