Can you imagine asking for “safe space” in BCT at Ft. Benning, or RVN?

A former DI, retired Sergeant major, told me that recruits can now pull a "timeout card" if they feel too much stress while being disciplined in Basic, and then they get to go to a "safe space" to calm down, and that then restrictive protocols go into effect towards them that have to be followed by the DI.

I kid you not.

I was commissioned through OCS, so went through BCT at Benning.

Ran into my old DI in RVN. He had made E-8 and was 1SG of an Engineer company.

He said “BCT was tough, so, if a kid was going to break, he would do it there, not in combat”.

This current system is such a disservice to the troops!

I definitely don’t remember that when I was going through BCT at Benning in ‘06. Must be pretty new.

The time out cards have been gone on for over a decade including BUDS (Navy SEAL training); a friend who did BUDS was disgusted at how wimpy the training is, and that was a decade ago.
