Bristol Palin: I hope my mom endorses Trump
The Hill ^ | January 19, 2016 | By Jesse Byrnes

Bristol Palin on Tuesday urged her mom, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to endorse Donald Trump over Republican presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas).

The younger Palin took to her blog to note that her mom "has consistently supported" Cruz and accuse the Texas senator of "arrogance" for thinking a Trump endorsement could hurt her.

"After hearing what Cruz is now saying about my mom, in a negative knee-jerk reaction, makes me hope my mom does endorse Trump," Bristol Palin wrote in her blog post

that her mom shared on her Facebook page and tweeted to her 1.2 million followers.

"Cruz's flip-flop, turning against my mom who's done nothing but support and help him when others sure didn't, shows he's a typical politician. How rude to that he's setting up a false narrative about her!" she added.

Bristol Palin was responding to remarks from Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler earlier in day Tuesday, when he suggested Palin's endorsement of Trump would "be a blow to Sarah Palin."

"I think it would be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion of the conservative cause and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly she would be endorsing someone who's held progressive views all their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion, he supported [the] TARP bailout - it goes on and on and on," Tyler said on CNN's "New Day."

"I didn’t go to Harvard Law School, but I know this: You can like two people in a race, but there will only one president," Bristol Palin shot back in her blog post.

"The audacity to suggest that because she chooses one over the other will somehow 'damage' her just shows arrogance," she added. "I hope you're right, and that she endorses Donald Trump today for President."

Speculation has been rising that Sarah Palin would be endorsing Trump during a campaign event in Iowa on Tuesday after Trump touted a "big announcement."

Obviously she has not read what was actually said, which was they would be extremely disappointed if Sarah endorsed Trump. Now maybe I am not too smart but that does not seem to me to be an attack!!! What am I missing?

I am still waiting for more evidence of Cruz’s ‘attack’ on Sarah...anyone?

A blunder, yes, but I don’t think I’d consider it strategic.

Here’s the issue: this is likely a trap laid out by Trump. Get Sarah’s endorsement, have Cruz stick his head up with an attack, have Bristol take swipes at Cruz with the aforementioned rhetorical 2X4.

However Cruz really didn’t launch much of an attack. Certainly nothing that would warrant the kind of response Bristol leveled. It ends up looking like an overresponse, and a contrived/planned one that was just triggered too soon for too minimal of a reason.

Strategically this is going to hurt everyone. It drives a deeper wedge between the Trump and Cruz camps and both camps will need the full support of the other to win the general election. Sarah Palin, who’s greatest political strength is Conservative voter turnout, is diminished by angering a good % of Comservatives, making her less effective the general election campaign.

This is all about stopping Cruz in Iowa. Watch Drudge pile on very soon, too.

Well if Palin does endorse Trump that will kill any democrat votes he might get. Dems still have Palin derangement syndrome. But it will kill her with conservatives. She will be on my Tom Hanks list, non-existent to me.

Damage control by Ted. He should fire his spokesperson for being such an idiot.

The spokesman essentially drew a line in the sand, pushing people to choose between Ted and Palin. Not smart. Many will side with Ted in that choice, but certainly not all. No point in forcing people to choose against you.

Oh, sure. Absolutely. Like I said, Palin is a Conservative voter turnout machine. Her endorsing either candidate is a major victory for the one she endorses and a major blow to the one she doesn’t.

It’s all about perception. How many delegate votes difference are there between 1st and 2nd if 5% points separate them? 25 delegates assigned proportionally? It’s just perception, and about the news cycle that will follow the caucus.

Exactly. Cruz’s spokesperson should have kept his mouth shut. There was no benefit for him to say what he said when he did. No benefit at all except for Trump and Palin.

I don’t think a Palin endorsement today will matter with Dem crossover voters in November. All it takes are some high profile Dem endorsements in October. And I’d be surprised if Trump didn’t have at least a few of those already lined up.

If they are a foretaste of a later announcement by Sarah and/or Trump, Bristol’s opinion this time might carry some weight.

Two Corinthians walked into a bar...

And the bartender said, "What'll it be, fellers?"

The First of the Two Corinthians said, "How bout some wine...and ya got any of them little crackers?"

There really is ZERO excuse for her to endorse Trump at this early stage in the primaries with real conservative candidates with a real shot in there fighting for the nomination. The Cruz campaign must know she’s going to endorse Trump for them to react this way. And Bristol Palin’s response to the Cruz campaign has “My Mom Will Be Endorsing Donald Trump” written all over it. If Sarah Palin goes through with this, it will be viewed as a HUGE betrayal (that she will never recover from IMHO).

It’s important news. Bristol Palin is very close to Sarah. I didn’t know Sarah shared it on FB. I only saw it when BP sent it to her FB “friends.”

BP is very angry at Ted Cruz for assuming things about her mother. Don’t tell me mom didn’t approve.

Of course, now all these creeps are trashing Palin.

I don't think that's true. She's been clear for a long time that she liked them both. If she picks one she thinks will be the better candidate, only those who demand she should have picked their preferred candidate will see it as a betrayal.
