That is not the definition used by the Framers. English common law was not part of this discussion during the Constitutional Convention. Vattel's book was retrieved especially for the discussion, likely at the recommendation of Thomas Jefferson, who was in France that entire summer.

The Vattel definition used by the Framers: a natural born citizen is one who is born in the country (jus solis), to parents (plural) who are citizens (jus sanguinis), at the time of the birth.
