No matter how much I extend my DNA search I keep getting Holcombe as the closest match. I can't find a Holcombe that lived in the area we lived in for a 100 years.

Maybe Grannie had a secret but then again when you knocked some of the local talent in those days you had to accept your evil ways in front of the Parish. We had a few of those.

But as the girls used to say the first can come at any time the second takes nine months.

It is my personal theory that many “Holcombe” and “Holcomboroughs”, after migrating to America in the early 1800s, changed the spelling of their names to the phonetic sound of the local vernacular, becoming “Huckabee” (huh-cum-be) and “Huckleberry” (huh-cum-ber-rah).
