Anything over a 14,000 gift is taxable, but the donor must pay the tax not the recipient.

I believe the current numbers are $14K if the donor is an individual, $28K if the donors are a married couple. And yes, the donor pays the taxes on anything over that.

I read the statute yesterday. You are mostly accurate. There ARE times when the recipient pays the taxes. They are few and far between.

If I am giving my deadbeat brother $1 million, I think that I would rather HE pay the taxes. Ha Ha.
