You would not believe how many conservatives, and even those who call themselves Christians, utterly disallow physical discipline of children.

Yup! Spare the rod, spoil the child.
I’ve had recent painful witness to a dear Dr. friend who’s lienence in raising his grade school child has utterly spoiled her.
The kid is insubordinate and shows outright contempt to adults around them (sticks out their tongue when told to do something).
The young child is an Expert liar too. So much so, that the school has complained about it.
It’s all I can do but to give the parent a good piece of my mind to tell them what a terrible job they’re doing disciplining and setting boundaries of wrong and right.
I can only delicately hint...
BTW: the parents are left of center high paid professional, low political information democrats.

daniel,
I agree with your general statement.
I disagree with Cruz using chastisement (spanking) for anything but defiance - and that not always.

Proverbs 16:25 (KJV)
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. There are so many ways that we can go away from God's Truths. Many times we see the consequences immediately. Sometimes it takes longer to notice.

The Bible is clear, spare the rod, spoil the child. It’s good for them.
