No, I don't think he ran for President in ‘64... the link was to show that Reagan ran 'for office AS A REPUBLICAN within about two years of leaving the Democrat Party. He ran for Governor of California.

Trump might be the first person in the last hundred years to go from being a private citizen with no government experience whatsoever to someone running for President.
