Just to clarify, this wasn't a 'guidelines' case - a federal judge can vary from the guidelines in appropriate cases if he or she is willing to do the paperwork.
In this case, the judge was outside the statutory limits set by Congress (and if folks have a complaint, it is with Congress, not the BLM or the courts).
The sentencing guidelines narrow the band set by congress; in this case the original sentence was not only outside of the guidelines, it was outside to the statutory limits set by Congress.
The US Attorney for that district filed an appeal of the original sentences and won in court. It is too bad that US Attorneys don’t feel so strongly about the same sorts of laws regarding use of guns in a crime.
