In South Texas, the river is routinely referred to as the Rio Bravo -- by Anglos and Latinos alike.

Most maps show both names.

In South Texas, do non-Latinos call themselves "Anglos"?

Yeah thats the rub with me. I grew up about 60 miles north of the river and never heard it referred to as the Rio Bravo. Upon digging out my old paper maps, I see Rand McNally evidently never referred to it by any name other than the Rio Grande.
I guess it’s a good thing that the big body of water that I fished in my whole life is already called the Gulf of Mexico. Keeps Google from having to rename it.
