Dialogue isn’t everything. It had a visual and mythic grandeur that this film lacks.
Dialog isn’t everything, but if you think ROS had better visual grandeur than this movie your prescription is post dated. One of the things I liked best about this movie was the visual grandeur, everything looked better than it ever had before. More real, more epic, more lived in, more tangible. I first noticed it on the Falcon, it had so much more texture than it’s ever had before, then I noticed it throughout.
Sorry, but in the end you’re just proving my point. You’re not an SW fan, you really are just wasting your time watching SW movies. There’s nothing wrong with that. But life is better if you admit and understand that there’s just some stuff you’re not on board for. I will not be watching Dawn Of Justice this summer, not a Superman fan, do not watch Superman movies, period, already know I won’t like them, no reason to waste my time on them. Could be the greatest movie ever made, I’ll hate every minute of it, best to just skip it.
I take each film as an individual object. I couldn’t care less about Superman either but think that the Richard Lester film ‘Superman 2’ is a minor masterpiece.
I’m not sure I ever successfully watched all of Superman 2, I know I’ve seen parts of it, hated it. Before I even realized my dislike for the character. Actually it was one of the pieces that helped me realize not all movies are for all people. There is simply not a Superman story that will interest me for 2 hours. I have the same kind of thing with Rockie, I know the common wisdom is that’s the greatest sports movie ever made, bores me to death, never seen any of the sequels. Creed’s getting great review, but I know I’d just hate it, so I skip it.
I’m more interested in it as a Lester film and what it has in common with his other films about unwanted heroism/ idealizing (Petulia, Robin and Marian, even the Beatles films are about idols who don’t really want to be).
Robin and Marian is never, never seen Petulia, don’t like the Beatles don’t like their movies.
Sorry, R&M is good. Cat distracting me.
Petulia is one of the best American films of the 1960s.
Looks interesting. Have to give it a shake.
Look at the bright side, they will have a tough time making Episode 8 a remake of Empire Strikes Back. I mean how could they get half of the cast fighting a rebellion against an evil force while the new jedi trains with a master on a watery planet.
Wait
What?
Now that right there is funny!!!
This follows along with the entire cultural “get rid of the no longer useful white guys” meme the world seems to be working on.
