THEORETICALLY, given the nation is in extremis, the House and Senate could show up tomorrow and have Obama removed in days. Nothing in the Constitution bars them from having a fast impeachment, trial and removal order.
The only event that could POSSIBLY remove Obama in a short time frame is if the American people took to the streets EN MASSE and drove Congress to be in extremis.
The reality is the democrats will say this is grandstanding by republicans to hurt their President and in turn their frontrunner for the 2016 election.
If there is, as Trump warns, another 9-11 type attack and it is attributed to ISIS, AND the evidence is incontrovertible that Obama enabled and abetted ISIS. then Congress may be driven to be in extremis.
As for your history of impeachment, inpeachment does not remove a president, it indicts a president. A Senate trial that returns a verdict of guilty permits the Senate to remove a president. You are correct that two democrats were impeached and neither removed. But Nixon would most likely have been impeached and his resignation is viewed as a de facto removal.
