I have my gas (furnace and water heater) on “equal pay,” because I don’t use the furnace in the winter. It runs $15 a month. The electric is another story.

I’ve used a space heater to heat my place in the winter for about 20 years, and it has always been much cheaper than using the furnace. The rates have gone up, and the assistance has gone down.

Two years ago (2014) my share of the payment was $24, and their share was $70+ for each $100. 2015, my share was $17, and it was for a month less. I can’t keep this going. I need help.

I’m hoping that a place of my own might tip things in my favor...

Electric rates may be high anywhere you live.
