Donald Trump has been named a runner-up on TIME’s 2015 Person of the Year list, losing out to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. But he is the only American political figure on the list–a testament to his surprise influence on American politics this year. TIME’s Michael Scherer profiles Trump for the issue, putting him in the same category as Huey Long, Joseph McCarthy, and George Wallace. “Each terrified some and delighted others, testing the nation’s very identity,†he writes.
The fallout from Trump’s plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States entered its second day, sending candidates off-message as they were force to contend with his comments. All of the GOP candidates have pledged to support the eventual nominee—meaning, possibly Trump—but many found themselves trying to squirm out of the pledge Tuesday. Jeb Bush maintained he would support the nominee, but that it wouldn’t be Trump, an evasion embraced by many of his colleagues. Others, including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul said outright they’d back Trump, as they hope to appeal to his supporters.

Thank God Trump didn’t get this. Why should he be tainted by this rag of a magazine?
I expect someone will do a side by side graphic of the two German leaders on their respective covers.
Merkel is definately this year’s culture killing antichrist.
She is an evil bitch who is a bigger threat to Europe than Putin.
She is now.
She did great in earlier years for it’s economy, but that didn’t get her the award LOL!
She got the award for her failing instead.
Merkel, a “former” communist, is willing tool of the godless global elites and serves their agenda of complete enslavement of the peoples of the Western World.
When you look at it through that lens, it all makes sense.
That is a real contrast - she wants to let them all in, he wants to keep them all out.
Don’t particularly like Mr. Trump, but there was no way in Hell (NWIH)that TIME magazine was ever going to ever pick a Republican presidential candidate in the run up to an election year.
Can’t pick Hillary? Then pick a prominent woman politician who just happens to be about the same age and who holds an executive office similar to the one Hillary is seeking.
