GPS will often take you on a ridiculous route. It is better to use it as a last resort if you are lost and just need to get home.

I like to know where I am in relation to the larger area, like the whole city or whole county if in a rural area, and GPS doesn’t provide this information.

My experience with GPS is that it generally gives you the first available exit, but not the best one.

Years ago when visiting DC we were using the GPS system in the rental car. Just as we were crossing the Potomac the crazy GPS lady told us to take a right ~ we ignored her as the car had no flotation devices.
