I wonder if something like a scuba suit, radiation suit, bunny suit for a clean room or similar all encompassing gear hides your smell long enough to protect you to move from place to place.
And would coating yourself in manure or garlic be enough to ward off their sense of smell, just as it would a dog.
But then you have to ask the rules of THAT universe, in order to be able to apply logic.

Someone said that was Star Wars / sci-fi. And the reply was: we’ve already broken the walls of reality with the dead rising, so I can bring in a light saber.
So now we get into the rationality of how to evade or kill the dead, based on whatever logic you can apply to a fictional universe.
