I think the other issue is Japan is a very homogenous society so racial strife is very rare. Japan also values hard work and personal achievement. If someone wants something they will work hard to get it, not simply take it from someone else.
They are total workaholics there for sure. The salarymen thing is just one example. And I agree. race is certainly part of their whole ethic.
