Also, I have not seen one of those huge, beautiful Garden Spiders in decades.

Are you in Northern California? The late 70's drought seemed to render them extinct - along with a while lot of other species like Jerusalem crickets that I used to see all the time when I was growing up in Marin County.

I'm sure the Midwest still has trillions of them, though. :)

Nope, western MD and we sure have not had any droughts.

In fact, it’s “monsoon season” from February to late May.

Maybe too much rain?

I sure miss them, though.
