Spot on with your reply.

No entitlements, no expectations of health, when the pilgrims came over. Only to better their lives.

The same in the early 19 hundreds. The immigrants and refugees came to the United States to make a better life for themselves. There were no entitlements, no government handouts, no expectations other than the given the opportunity to succeed. It was a time when the United States needed population to increase to expand to its fullest capability.

Now we are faced with both legal and illegal immigrants coming to this country expecting a handout. Expecting entitlement. Expecting the government to take care of them. And we allow them to do so, and allow them to not assimilate into our culture...allow them to bring their cultures and rules, cultures which they flee, and maintain them in their communities.

They are not here to contribute to our society our culture our way of life. We no longer need the influx of labor.

The balkanization of America continues. And the result can be seen in Europe’s current situation.

Thank you Sir, and more to your point, it is now considered a jingoistic act, but I often wonder how much it contributed to assimilation when the folk at Ellis Island changed immigrant names to something more “American” sounding.

Let's face it, at the turn of the 20th century, John Fletcher had a better chance of fitting in and getting ahead than Giovanni Falcone.
