Definitely true. Our cravings come from gut bugs. They own us. Pound for pound there are more of them than is in us. We will be learning so much about their effect on our eating and our health and even our moods.
The Whisky FReeper who is constantly trying to get FReepers to give up all carbs doesn’t understand the importance of gut bugs. And the good gut bugs need carbs, especially carbs with resistant starch in it. Like cooked and cooled rice (Sushi works, or you can reheat the rice) and potatoes (potato salad is perfect). Lots of fibers in veggies, not lettuces, but asparagus stalks, etc.
Basically we really do need all the food groups, and brand new info, not published yet, is that we do not need variety in our diets. If you like variety, great, but gut bug populations can grow better even if you enjoy the same meats, fats, veggies, carbs, and fruits every day. Don’t feel guilty if you do.
Even our moods come from the gut bugs. Going too low carb can affect you to the point of depression. Try and eat clean foods, no enriched flour foods, and just enjoy them.
bttt - this low-carb diet is killin’ me. I’ve lost 30 pounds but I’m starting to dream about biscuits and hash bowns. ;o)
What gut bugs make a big difference too. If you eat complex carbs like veggies your gut bugs will be lactobiotic and you will be much healthier, but if you are a sugar doughnut junkie you will be a walking Candida infection headed to insulin injections down the diverticulitis road.
Kimchee is your friend. Sugar is not.
